OUR MISSION & OBJECTIVES, SIMPLIFIED...  (Read this first!)

Our mission is clearly written, and our objectives are clearly stated. It is now our job to do that which we have committed to do.  Stated simply, our business is to build a program within government that is legitimate, meaningful, and substantive with the power to change the way our industry operates, and the way taxpayers use their energy.

How will we do this? First, by choosing to strategically embark on projects that build our reputation, and show that we can deliver. Second, by building a program that is self-sustaining which therefore stands on its own accord.

Below you will find a lengthily list of impending projects. This list grows every-day, with every phone-call, and with every great idea given by someone who shares our vision. Know that while we have the means, the drive, and the knowledge to complete them all, we lack the resources. Please carefully read the list below, and be excited by it. Then join us and help.

IMPENDING PROJECTS

    APP Logo
    Official APP Logo!
  1. PUBLIC RELATIONS & MARKETING
    • website - must be updated and maintained
    • newsletter - continued regular delivery to build our readership and support
    • press releases to newspapers, television, radio, et cetera - WE MUST CHANGE THE WAY WE MARKET OUR SCHOOL, there is much work do to here
    • grant & funding development - we are nothing without income
  2. CEMENT RELATIONSHIPS AND PARTNERSHIPS
    • partnering contracts - several companies are immediately willing and ready to enter into mutually beneficial partnering agreements
  3. NEW HIRES
    • interns, temporary duty, new employees, et cetera - The fact is, these projects are real & serious. All of this requires the dedicated attention of full-time employees. They are investments in the APP's future. In order to survive we need to find ways to bring on new employees to the APP and examine other creative means to generate help.
    • Navy Reserve Duty Station - work with the Merchant Marine Reserve / Navy Reserve to launch APP as an official two-week reserve station
    • H2 Lab.
      Hydrogen Laboratory
  4. H2 HOUSE RECONSTRUCTION
    • hydrogen & electrical / PV - finish reconstruction
    • basic services - install utilities, sewer & water, HVAC, electrical systems
    • site development - landscaping, decks, signage
    • interior design and decoration
  5. H2 HOUSE RESEARCH & EXHIBITION
    • engineering research - extended monitoring - development of systems
    • foster development project of a solar-hydrogen home with Plug Power & Proton Energy
    • exhibitions - demonstrations - community outreach
    • complete partnership agreement / Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NYIT
  6. CENTRAL POWER SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT / FULTON-GIBBS HYDROGEN LAB  (PHASE I)
    • hydrogen generator purchase - required for both the hydrogen house, and the laboratory (Central Power System)
    • weather station - Install a weather station high atop the Fulton-Gibbs building with real-time data feed into the intra/internet.
    • 10 KW Photo-Voltaic System - This system is currently on-line and feeding power to the electrical grid and Academy facilities. However, this system requires the installation of a wattmeter and the configuration of a small data acquisition system which will provide real-time performance information to the USMMA internet.
    • furniture acquisition - benches, workstations, instructor operations
    • hydrogen detection system - We have purchased the equipment, but it must be carefully installed. This installation is our first step in developing save and code-compliant hydrogen laboratory.
  7. FUEL-CELL POWER ON THE KINGS POINTER / OTHER VESSELS
    • Ie - for in-port power source / prime power / on Kings Pointer
    • Ie - small craft primary power-plant power source like Growler, or Life-boat
    • Artic Energies LTD / Armada Companies LLC / Office of Naval Research - all have actual projects underway utilizing fuel-cells on board boats and ships, with each we have relations and impending initiatives
  8. FUEL-CELL POWERED BOAT
  9. FC Powered Boat
Program MIDN surrounding Fuel Cell powered boat,
    under construction.
    • finish carpentry - build console, build cradle for gas & fuel cell enclosure
    • power system - test run the fuel cell & associated gas / electric system in the test tank in the laboratory
    • commission the system - sea trials!
  10. UTILITY SCALE WIND TURBINE / CO-GENERATION POWER FACILITY
    • meteorological tower - Install a full-height (150 ft) which measures our "wind profile".
    • feasibility study - asses wind data for a minimum of six months to twelve months, determine economics
    • determine utility - depending on size, power from the wind turbine could be used for power generation or in the process of making hydrogen
    • contractual arrangements - incorporate ownership structure, negotiate net-metering agreement, M&R contract
  11. CENTRAL POWER SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT / FULTON-GIBBS HYDROGEN LAB  (PHASE II)
    • continued engineering design of Central Power System (CPS) - This system will act as the primary power generation and distribution center for the Alternative Power Program.
    • AutoCad layout - cable-ways, electrical panel positions, data acquisition equipment
    • assembly - contract or perform work in-house
    • Acquire a Solid-Oxide Fuel Cell.
  12. STUDENT ACTIVITY CENTER / CONVERT INCINERATOR BUILDING
    • Convert and refurbish the incinerator building into a "Student Activity Center" which will augment the APP laboratories. This will be a facility where students can experiment, build, and develop APP & related USMMA projects
    • cover / fill-in pit, determine funding source, contract work / do in-house to maximum extent
    • outfit with tools and basic faculties which allow students to fabricate and experiment (Ie human powered submarine project)
  13. COMPUTER SERVER BACK-UP POWER SUPPLY UPGRADE WITH DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
    • A vital part of a computer network is a reliable auxiliary source of power when the utility browns out or fails to deliver. Jointly we intend to develop a green, newsworthy back-up power supply for DoIT.
  14. ALTERNATIVE FUELS AMMONIA & BIO-DIESEL
  15. H2 Lab.
    Imagine...
    • ammonia (NH3) - As pursued by faculty member James Harbach & associate Vito Agosta, ammonia is potent and powerful. It can easily be converted from liquid form to a gas. Instead of pure hydrogen as the energy carrier, ammonia proposes some promising alternatives.
    • bio-diesel - we have been contacted to assist in testing bio-diesel, and to help integrate into maritime industry. While hydrogen based power may be a few years away, bio-diesel power is available today, and easily applicable to our industry
  16. EMBARK UPON A FIRST JOINT PROJECT WITH NYMSEC
    • NYMSEC has been founded, but now it is time to embark on our first joint endeavor.
    • We have since generated a joint grand proposal to the DOE - outcome is still pending
    • press conference - once the first major project is underway, we have agreed to hold a press conference inviting local press, government, and dignitaries
  17. "ALTERNATIVE ENERGY" SYSTEMS ENGINEERING MINOR
    • curriculum development - first, the facilities must exist, then the curriculum must be developed, and approved
    • Of the most vital things we can do, is pass along our passion and knowledge to our students.
  18. COMMUNITY & INDUSTRY OUTREACH
    • NASA - friends and Kings Pointers working within NASA wish to foster student exchanges & guest speakers via the APP
    • high-school outreach - host "Electrathon Vehicle" competitions among area high schools & build a battery / PV / fuel-cell driven go-carts
    • GMATS - develop an educational outreach program through the Global Maritime and Transportation School
  19. GREEN ACADEMY FACILITIES & UPGRADES
    • Re-roof academy buildings with photo-voltaic roofing membranes.
    • "Benchmark" academy facility energy usage
    • geo-thermal - integrate geo-thermal system, as recently installed, into APP curriculum and data monitoring systems
